A Groom's Wedding Responsibilities, Part 2

Posted by Lacey Wilcox on 3rd Jul 2015

We started a blog series last week to make sure all the procrastinating grooms out there are taking care of their responsibilities for their wedding. We’re not claiming that this is a comprehensive list of all of the groom’s wedding responsibilities, but we are claiming that it’ll be an excellent place for you to start. We’ll guarantee that if you follow this list of duties of the groom, you’ll come off looking every bit as suave as we know you to be.

Put your guest list together

This groom duty is going to be more time consuming than you think. Before you and your bride decide who to invite to your wedding, you need to determine how large you want your guest list to be. Then, you and your bride can decide which family and friends to include on your wedding guest list, and even make notes about where you might want them to sit if you’re having a dinner (we highly recommend keeping Uncle Albert from the bar if he gets tipsy easily). As a general rule, invitations need to be sent out around eight weeks before the wedding.

Plan the Honeymoon

One of the groom’s most important wedding responsibilities is to plan the honeymoon. In your granddad’s day, this would have been solely his responsibility. Now we know you’re a classic gentleman and there’s a certain part of you that’s traditional and maybe even a little old-fashioned. However, couples these days are doing this one task together more and more. Nowadays, it is the groom’s duty to get a good vibe from his fiancée on what kind of locale you would both enjoy for the honeymoon.

Picking Out Wedding Bands

Yes, it is the groom’s duty to buy another ring. But trust us, it’s a lot easier than the first one, and only a fraction of the cost… hopefully. The good thing is you get to pick out your own wedding band. We know you’re a distinguished gentleman so you don’t need much help choosing a great accessory. Trust us though, you can’t go wrong with wearing gold or silver. And she gets to choose hers too, so pressure relieved.

Making it Legal

It’s also the groom’s responsibility to arrange the purchasing of the marriage license. You’ll probably have to go to the courthouse and then you’ll want to be sure you get your preacher to sign it, and maybe you have to have a witness from the county commissioner’s court in some places and prick your fingers for a blood oath in others. Maybe you have to take anger management classes. Look we don’t know how your state does it, but it’s on you to figure it out.

Don’t Loose Your Keys

Don’t forget to have a car ready to whisk you two love birds away after the ceremony. The last thing you want to do is be stranded and unable to get to your own wedding reception in a hasty as possible manner. This sounds simple, but trust us things can pretty complicated on that day. It’s the groom’s responsibility to make sure you guys are ready to leave as soon as its time. By that time you’re both going to need some food pretty bad and she’ll hardly be able to squeeze out another smile on account of her shoes and sleep deprived state.

If you follow our groom’s wedding responsibilities with attention to detail, which we know your capable of (I mean, you wear Two Guys Bow Ties products) you’re going to get along just fine. You’re going to know exactly what needs to be done, before it needs to be done. Your soon-to-be father-in-law is going to be resting a lot easier when he sees you taking care of business like a boss, or Tom Cruise, depending on how old he is.

As Seen on SHARK TANK

Posted by Two Guys Bow Ties on 23rd Oct 2015

It was officially two weeks ago today since our company aired on the hit TV show, Shark Tank, on ABC. Which also means, it has been four weeks ago today since we found out our segment was even going to be on the show. What an amazing ride this last month has been!

adam-teague-tim-paslay-two-guys-bowtie-company-3

It all started when we went to our first open audition last summer in Oklahoma City. Only the first 500 attending the audition were guaranteed to be seen by casting officials, so Tim drove down at 5 a.m. to get a place in line at the Devon Boathouse. He stood in the rain wearing his “nice dress clothes” until 10 a.m., when we were allowed inside.

But instead of a quiet room where the attention is seemingly focused on just one or two potential contestants, this casting call involved a row of picnic tables with one casting person behind each, listening to the one-minute pitch — all at the same time.

There was definitely a moment in our audition when the girl we were pitching to — who was acting moderately disinterested — set down her cell phone and asked us to repeat what we had said. At that point, we could tell we had definitely gotten her attention.

What was supposed to be a one-minute presentation turned into 10 to 15 minutes and, pretty soon, the other contestants were gone and the rest of the casting staff was coming over to ask us about our products.

After we had left that night, we could tell we made a good impression, and felt we had done the best we could.

But the road to getting on the TV show became much more involved. Once we were notified we had made the next round, there were follow-up phone interviews, an audition video to make, paperwork to file, background checks, producers to work with on crafting our pitch, etc. And along with every step, we were told there was no guarantee we would make it on the show.

Finally in July, we were asked to fly to Los Angeles to tape our segment for the show. The producers did a good job of preparing us for the show, but the reality of what was happening didn’t hit us until taping time. When those huge doors open and you walk down that hall, it gets really real, real fast.

When we walked into the Tank, they asked us to pause for 30 seconds while they took some display shots, then they said go, and we started our pitch. No producer stopped us, so it really was just a conversation between us and the sharks.

daymond-john-3

After close to 45 minutes of being in the Tank, we walked out with smiles on our faces after making a deal with Daymond. But the process wasn’t over yet! We still had paper work to fill out, conference calls, and Skype appointments to make. But after several months on wondering if our segment was going to be chosen to air, we finally found out at the end of September we were in!

Our episode aired on October 9th, and we hosted a “Watch Party” with our employees, friends, and family at our Tulsa shop. It was incredible to see the amount of support we got from our hometown of Tulsa, as well as people all over the country and even the world.

Since then, we have been able to grow our team from 7 people to 13 people and are looking to even hire a handful more. We have been able to become more efficient in our making process while maintaining the utmost quality that we require, and our sales in one month have already beat last year’s numbers!

All in all, this whole Shark Tank experience has been great, we are so thankful for the opportunities we’ve been given as a result of it, and we’re excited for this year’s holiday season.

Wood Brimmed Fedoras

Posted by Lacey Wilcox on 3rd Dec 2014

After the success of our wood brimmed fedora debut in this year’s NBA playoffs, we had dozens of requests to launch a line of these unique hats.

fedora-1-2

We’ve heard your cries for more wood, and we have answered, by creating an everyday piece for all you dapper dudes that is diverse enough to wear for any occasion (even your annual Christmas pheasant hunt). It’s the kind of headwear that could just get you on the cover of Garden & Gun. These hardwood brimmed fedoras are rugged, handsome, and ready for all-day action.

fedora-2-2

We use an American craftsman’s favorite wood—walnut. We’re rolling out a few different colors of high-quality, light-weight felt that add color and style but help keep the hat lightweight. We’ve finished the walnut in an appropriate shade to compliment the tone of the fabric and the natural beauty of the wood. Then we finish each one off with a band that’s perfectly suited. Our gray walnut is the only model without a leather band. Instead, we’ve opted to wrap it in gray felt? instead. Each fedora is classy enough to wear to dinner yet rugged enough to spend a day in the field. Really, it’s a timeless accessory any way you look at it.

fedora-3-2

The wooden brim isn’t just sharp and unique, it’s also durable. We’re in the business of creating things that last and our new wood brimmed fedora is no different. We’ve also solved one of the biggest concerns for the fedora sporting gentleman—the care of his hat.

fedora-4-2

With a traditional snap brim a man has to be careful about where and how he doffs his signature piece. If he places it brim down he must place it near the edge of a surface so the brim’s form is maintained. If he places it upside down on its crown, as he should, he’s placing it on its most vulnerable feature. With our fedora, you can place it right side up on any surface. We’ve solved the quandary that has existed for as long as the fedora. Also, you no longer have to be especially mindful of handling your brim with clean hands. Our wooden brims will wipe clean every time.

fedora-5-2

We’ve made this wooden brimmed fedora as rugged as you are. We’ve crafted a piece to highlight your stylish existence every hour of every day. We guarantee you’re going to turn some heads with this one. We can promise you the upper hand in almost any situation where your head is under these hats; however, we can’t promise you’ll bag your limit flushing pheasant. And we can’t promise you she’ll give you her number, but we can promise you’ll look dang good. If we know you, that confidence is really all you need.

Armour Philadelphia

Posted by Lacey Wilcox on 24th Dec 2014

We have a fondness for many of the cities in our great nation, and The City of Brotherly Love is no exception. We’ve been fortunate enough to be represented by Philly’s finest. From the Legendary Roots Crew’s ?uestlove wearing our wooden bow ties fillin’ in the breaks for “The Hardest-Working Band in Late Night” to our progressive, sartorial, and dapper partners selling our wooden wares, menswear mecca–Armour Philadelphia.

For those of you who don’t know the story, Armour is the brainchild of human resources veteran David Grimes. After working in corporate America for over 20 years he decided he was ready for a change. Before he traded in his corner office, he began a regimen of research and study taking night courses at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. His idea for opening a menswear boutique was birthed of equal parts necessity and passion. Being a cutting-edge stylish dude had its drawbacks in Grimes’ Philadelphia hometown, as he had to shop out-of-state and online to secure the fashion forward style pieces he’s known for. The tipping point came and with it David Grimes’ Armour Philadelphia was established.

Armour Creative Director and source for our interview: Eric Hatcher

Armour isn’t like other menswear stores. They pride themselves on their penchant for offering unique and stylish separates and accessories that can be easily incorporated into any stylish man’s wardrobe. See why we get along so well?

Creative Director Eric Hatcher described the shop as, “… that slick, laid back joint where you can find some fresh accents to your existing wardrobe.” Armour stocks trousers, blazers, jewelry, dress shirts, and some other distinguished items like artwork and home accessories.

Hatcher paid us the kindest compliment when we asked if he had any personal favorites in the store. He’s a fan of anything unusual or jazzy and says our products have been a favorite of his since we first met at a trade show in New York. Our ties are different from others and that’s a quality that he always appreciates.

Hatcher said, “…the centerpiece patterns, the actual wooden construction itself. [They] can be worn with pride and confidence to a variety of venues.”

Armour’s shoppers have come to expect the unexpected from their carefully curated brands. Customers visit looking for dapper apparel, and the crew at Armour is the best at facilitating a personal, individualized look that you can call your own. Our wooden bow ties and lapel flowers work well to fit that bill for novelty and they craft a look that’s “stylishly yours.”

Hatcher continued, “Personally, I encourage our customers to wear Two Guys Bow Ties products like we like to wear them: to work any day of the week, to special occasions like weddings and holiday parties, or even on a hot date. We like to say, keep a tie handy for a quick upgrade to a casual ensemble or to add an air of elegance to any shirt and sport coat combo.”

The historic Fabic Row retailer has big plans for the future. If you’re a regular, you’ve seen them introduce a new exciting category every season. The most recent additions were undies and footwear, and very soon they’ll be offering loungewear. Because “it’s all about being comfy during life’s journey through the world-at-large.” We couldn’t agree more.

Hatcher also told us another important focus for the future at Armour will be their continued commitment to Philadelphia’s local talent. Because they love their community, the style-hub showcases a rotating line-up of designers, artists, and photographers.  Hatcher says, “There are so many rich flavors, raw skills, and diverse stories around us here… How could we ever ignore them?”

We definitely can’t ignore Armour Philadelphia, and we don’t think you will be able to, either.  If you’re near Philadelphia, be sure to check out their store.

Peruvian Walnut

Posted by Lacey Wilcox on 30th Jul 2014

Walnut hardwood is one of the most highly sought after species of wood used in fine carpentry. While Eastern Black is the popular choice in North America, the Andes mountain region offers a fine variety as well. Peruvian walnut has all the same qualities as its ‘Merican cousin with the added benefit of a more clear grain structure.

Also known as Nogal in its native region, Peruvian Walnut’s absence of too many knots or extra sapwood leaves more of the coarse, mahogany like wood for craftsman to craft with. Woody’s makes some seriously slick bike fenders, chain guards, and other parts out of Peruvian Walnut in Bend, Oregon. Why? Simple. Because you don’t need four wheels to ride in style anymore than you need to tie silk around your neck to look dapper.

Craftsman and artist, Ross Leidy makes some of the finest looking table tennis blades we’ve ever seen commissioning Peruvian Walnut. Yes, we just said “table tennis blade.” Why? Because it’d be an insult to call this thing a ping pong paddle.

Of course we’re making some extremely fine neckwear out of Peruvian Walnut. Both our Clifford and Ray are made from the Junglans species. Clifford’s red & white houndstooth really pop against the dark hardwood. This hardwood bow tie looks great anywhere. Have a dinner plans Saturday night? Suit up with it. Crushing your boys in a ping pong tourney Friday night? Take Clifford, a red, white, and blue headband, roll the sleeves up on your linen shirt and do work.

Our Ray hardwood bow tie is also a workhorse. While Ray could easily accompany you to dinner he’d honestly rather be on a pub crawl… on a bike adorned with an ensemble of other Peruvian Walnut crafted accessories. Did we mention he could pong too?

Walnut is a craftsman’s wood in all its varieties. It’s tough enough for just about anything, which means it’ll be with you for a long time to come. Whether you’re using them on the interior of a classic car, to make a guitar, as flooring, or even a dapper accessory, you can guarantee that Walnut woods will always be classy.

Two Guys Bow Ties French Distributor

Posted by Lacey Wilcox on 29th Jun 2014

Europe has long been known for its purveyance of incredible fashion. From the finest suits to the most elite shoes, articulate taste and style is no stranger to our Eastern neighbor. France in particular has shown itself as a trendsetting nation, with a love for fine works and dandy styles. When we had the opportunity to connect with a distributor who wanted to sell our wooden bow ties and lapels, we knew it was an incredible opportunity. He recently shared with us some of his personal history and why he loves Two Guys Bow Ties.

french-1

2GBT: Tell us a little about your history. Where did you work before you became a distributor for Two Guys Bow Ties?

BF: I used to work in finance in London. In 2011, I moved back to Paris, where I started my own distrbution company. I’ve always been into handwork since I was a kid when I used to make things with my father. Our family has a history of cabinet makers, and I recently went back to school at École Boulle, which is a very famous cabinet maker school in Paris. Boulle was the private cabinet maker of King Louis XIV and this school has taught the art of wood for centuries.

screen-shot-2014-06-30-at-9-15-53-pm

2GBT: How did you first become connected with Two Guys Bow Ties?

BF: I discovered Two Guys Bow Ties through the internet: they were running a private sale on a design website. I loved the idea right away and got in touch with Adam and Tim, who were pleased to find someone to broadcast their idea in Europe.

2GBT: What made you want to sell 2GBT in France?

BF: France and Europe have always had a dandy history. We love fine works and original clothing. Bowties are very posh in France, but bringing wood into it really turned things around. Two Guys Bow Ties was the perfect match to combine an innovative, dapper product with my love of woodworking.

french-2

2GBT: What kind of success have you seen with wooden bow ties and lapel flowers? Why do you think men like this product?

BF: So far Two Guys Bow Ties sells very well in France: online sales are great and all the shops we are working with are very happy with the turnover and product quality. It is still a product that we like to keep somewhat secret, and not mainstream, which lends to its appeal.

2GBT: What about our wooden bow ties and lapels appealed to you?

BF: Two Guys Bow Ties is refreshing, original and brings this extra dandy touch that we French love so much.

screen-shot-2014-06-30-at-9-15-35-pm

The reception we have received in Europe and beyond has been incredible, and we’re grateful for the work he does to share our ties with our friends across the pond. His team even had the privilege recently of sending a bow tie to King Filip of Belgium. To learn more about our French distributor, visit them on Instagram and Facebook.
